The front room of Tania Niwa’s studio in Fairlight, Sydney, is like a private gallery showcasing images of families and people from some of the most exotic destinations in the world. Sunlight streams through the wide windows, lighting up the striking metallic silver and pale yellow walls where framed photographs hang on expertly considered display. Portraits of families, weddings and individuals dominate the front room while the long, warmly lit hallway is home to stunning images of tribal beauty.

In 2003 Tania was awarded the highest scoring print out of 1500 entries at the National Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) Professional Photographer of the Year Awards and gained the title of Master Photographer of the Year. As Tania continues documenting the lives of others, her ever-expanding Tribal Series demonstrates the beauty and power of her artistic vision. Although Tania will continue to explore the tribal roots and aesthetics of others, she will always have a strong grip on her own heritage.
